The collection, opened in 1994, is located in the elementary school of one of the oldest Gorski Kotar settlements. Since 2001, it is managed by the \u201cSv. Juraj\u201d ethnographic society.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Today, this ever-growing collection boasts more than 500 displays as part of its permanent exhibition.<\/p>\n

It consists of two rooms holding valuable exhibits. The first one is the reconstruction of a middle-class bedroom and lounge with antique furniture, artwork, old kitchenware and ornaments, as well as old documents and books describing the life of a prosperous middle-class family living in Gorski Kotar between the late 19th and the early 20th century.<\/p>\n

The room also holds a small sacral treasury with a large number of liturgical objects, valuable old church garb and banners, which are safeguarded in a specially installed air-tight cabinet.\u00a0 Valuable old musical instruments are also kept here.<\/p>\n

The second room displays works of art donated by physicist Dr Guy Pai\u0107 and his late wife, journalist Arlette Ambro\u017ei\u0107-Pai\u0107. The couple collected these pieces on their numerous travels, mostly through Africa, Asia and South America, and they offer a unique insight into non-European cultures in the middle of Gorski Kotar.<\/p>\n\n\n

After pedalling through vast forests, Gorski Kotar treats you to another one of its treasures \u2013 water. Having passed the Kupa river, the rest of the Crni Lug\u2013Fu\u017eine section could be nicknamed \u201cLakes of Gorski Kotar\u201d. Immediately after Crni Lug, in Mrzla Vodica, you will come across two lakes named Mrzlica and Lokvar. The Lokvar lake, also known as the Youth Lake, was created as a result of a dam construction in Lokve in 1954. It guards the original route of the Louisiana road, a state-of-the-art road of the time which connected Rijeka and Karlovac more than 200 years ago, but got flooded due to the accumulation of the Lokvar lake. After cycling uphill to witness the most beautiful view of Risnjak at Ravno Podolje, take the trail downhill to the Lepenica valley. Follow the Lepenica stream to the eponymous lake, which is connected to the Bajer lake in Fu\u017eine. You will also come across the Vrelo cave, hiding a small lake within, thus perfectly rounding off the experience of cycling along the Gorski Kotar lakes. The section ends in Fu\u017eine, a settlement sitting at 730 metres above sea level and surrounded by picturesque mountains, the serenity of centuries-old coniferous forests and gorgeous lakes. For the full experience of Fu\u017eine, we recommend a couple of days' stay. Other than on bicycle, you can explore the area \u2013 especially the Bajer lake \u2013 on foot or by boat, train or carriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting from the pass on top of Benkovac Fu\u017einski, the trail continues by a World War II monument. What follows is a ride down a gravel path through a forest toward Li\u010d, and afterwards, above Li\u010d. The trail then passes through a tunnel below the railway track in the centre of Li\u010d and continues toward Fu\u017eine. One kilometre from the centre of Li\u010d, the trail turns left on to a gravel path, from where it ascends back to Benkovac. You will be able to ride by the Forest Fairytale outing spot, through the tunnel below the railway track and by the Benkovac stream, all the way to the andesite quarry (please proceed with extra caution due to heavy machinery!). Further along, the trail steeply ascends back to the starting point, passing by the Chapel of the Holy Cross on the way, offering a panoramic view of the Li\u010dko Polje field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trail is moderately demanding and dynamic. The ascent to the finish line is very demanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting from the centre of Fu\u017eine, the trail stretches along the main road toward Li\u010d, passing under the railway bridge and the Drvenja\u010da production plant on the way. A few hundred meters beyond the centre of Li\u010d, the trail turns left onto a gravel path through the Li\u010dko Polje field, all the way to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. Further along, the gravel path leads back to the Li\u010dko Polje field, then turns right for an ascent toward Bitoraj. At the 12-kilometre mark, the trail connects to an asphalt forest path and turns left for descent toward the village of Vrata (please proceed with caution due to heavy forestry machinery!). Once in Vrata, keep following the gravel path across the highway and toward the Roswell cowboy village, but turn left and take the road descending toward the village of Vrelo at the 17-kilometre mark. Follow the trail along the Lepenica and Bajer lakes back to the centre of Fu\u017eine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The starting point is at the centre of Li\u010d, from which the route continues toward Potkobiljak. After about three hundred metres, the trail turns left, taking you across meadows and carriage roads toward the Li\u010dko Polje field. Having passed through Li\u010dko Polje, you will reach the industrial park, which you can freely cross. From there on, you need to turn right and follow a meadow path through the forest, all the way to the Potko\u0161 lake (watch out for the electric shepherd). From the Potko\u0161 lake, the trail passes down an asphalt road to an animal shelter, after which it follows the oil and gas pipeline route to the Forest Fairytale outing spot and back to the starting point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trail is easy with gently undulating terrain and only one marked ascent by the Potko\u0161 lake. It makes for a comfortable ride surrounded by gorgeous landscapes, especially at dawn or before sunset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
