The Wheel House of Nature on the Louisiana road can be described as holding the aromas and flavours of Gorski Kotar in one spot. In the House, you can taste autochthonous liqueurs, jams, teas, spreads and cakes made by the hardworking Arbanas family.
In addition to tasting, in the tasting room, you can listen to the story of Louisiana \u2013 a 200-year-old road connecting Rijeka and Karlovac and considered the most modern and beautiful mountain road in Europe at the time. In addition to the tasting room, the House of Nature also has an exhibition space, and an ethnological display of the \u201cLouisiana road<\/em>\u201d<\/em> exhibition is in the works.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cycling across Gorski Kotar is a treat for all senses. While riding your bicycle, enjoy the gorgeous views, scents of forest plants, birdsong and tastes of Gorski Kotar. The Fu\u017eine\u2013Delnice section is fully packed with these \u2013 from cycling by a field of mountain lavender and forest fruits to tasting the blueberry strudel, Gorski Kotar liqueurs, marmalades, teas and the \u201c\u0161kripavac\u201d cheese. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the 200-year-old Louisiana road connecting Rijeka and Karlovac. The Vrelo cave and the Lokvarka cave, both open for tourists, will enchant you with their rich underground world. Also, make sure to stop by Mrkopalj, a village dating back to the late 15th century, which experienced a real boom with the construction of the Caroline road. Mrkopalj is also known as the \u201cCradle of Croatian Skiing\u201d, seeing as the first ski course in Croatia was organised here in 1913. Take this scenic route connecting two historical roads \u2013 Caroline and Louisiana \u2013 and immerse yourself in the history of Gorski Kotar, when their construction breathed new life into the region. Starting from Fu\u017eine, ride along the shore of the Bajer lake toward the main road, which will take you to Gornje Jelenje \u2013 the starting point of the original stretch of the most recently built mountain road from 1811. At Ravno Podolje, the highest point of the Louisiana road, take a break by the altimeter and enjoy the gorgeous view eastward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Mrzla Vodica, you can also tour a stunning bridge built in carved stone, while the \u201cHouse of Nature\u201d in Lokve invites you to try its renowned authentic liqueurs. After refreshments or lunch in Delnice, continue cycling down the Louisiana road toward the Veliki Vodenjak viewpoint, a great spot for a quick break. Once in Zalesina, get off the Louisiana road for an adventurous ride along the second historical and tourist road \u2013 the Caroline, connecting Ravna Gora, Mrkopalj and Fu\u017eine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
