The Croatian reading room of the village Kuti is one of its kind in Croatia. It was founded by the locals back in 1936, at a time of a major economic crisis in Europe and at the initiative of Mr Antun Buri\u0107, supported by around fifteen locals. Even back then, people felt the need for books, information and progress, realising that the written word broadened their horizons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What makes this reading room unique is that, since its beginnings, it is headed by volunteers and proudly bears the word \u201cCroatian\u201d in its name. It was commemorated in the picture book \u201cSretna ku\u0107ica\u201d (\u201cHappy Little House\u201d) by K. D. Petkovi\u0107 and D. Arbanas, with illustrations by D. Macan, which received the children\u2019s \u201cSheep in the Box\u201d award in 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, its shelves display more than 9000 books, and it also keeps the tamburas played by the once active Ko\u010dki Tambura Players, who performed traditional Gorski Kotar songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting from Brod Moravice, follow the trail uphill to the village of Gornji Kuti, the cultural centre of the Brod Moravice area. Afterwards, cycle downhill through the villages of Maklen and Moravi\u010dka Sela, and after the village of Klepe\u0107e Selo, turn left to Podgorani. The inhabitants of these sparsely populated villages will happily greet you, and you might also catch a whiff of an excellent homemade apple tart on your ride. The villages are representative of valuable folk construction and form an ethnological whole. From there on, the trail takes you downhill through Kocijani to the main road coming from the direction of Brod na Kupi, from where an asphalt road will take you back to Brod Moravice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brod Moravice boasts an impressive 13 places of worship, with the oldest being the Church of St Nicholas in Brod Moravice, with a door inscription dating it to 1431. The Turanj Tower, whose construction was ordered by a Zrinski duke in the 16th century as defence against the Ottoman Turks, can be found by the church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
