\u010cabranka is a small mountain rapid and a 17.5-kilometre-long tributary of the Kupa river. It emerges at the end of the deep and narrow edge of the Kupa river valley, from crevices in steep rocks of the Veliki Obrh mountain (sitting at 546 metres above sea level). From its mountain source and many cascades and rapids to its mouth flowing into Kupa, the river stuns with its beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u010cabranka is full of salmonids, making it a hot spot for recreational fishing, as well as for other activities such as kayaking or cycling and hiking along the river bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This nearly 100-kilometre-long circular road route will leave everyone speechless, as it mostly runs along the Kupa river itself, as well as the \u010cabranka river. The scenic ascent from \u010cabar to the coldest village in Croatia in winter months \u2013 Parg \u2013 and the long descent down the serpentine section leading from Tr\u0161\u0107e to Gerovo will impress every cyclist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The last part of the route takes you for a ride along the very boundaries of the Risnjak National Park, then through Delnice \u2013 the highest inhabited town in Croatia \u2013 and the 12-kilometre-long descent toward the Kupa river valley is just the cherry on top. Explore the Butterfly Valley inhabited by more than 200 butterfly species and visit the \u201cWilderness with a Sea View\u201d permanent exhibition in the Zrinski Castle in Brod na Kupi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting from Tr\u0161\u0107e, take the scenic serpentine roads downhill to Smre\u010dje and Mali Lug, where you can enjoy the view of the grandiose forests of Gorski Kotar. Make sure to stop by the towering statue of Petar Klepac, a legendary giant with supernatural powers and a symbol of the strength of the people of Gorski Kotar. Once in Mali Lug, turn left and take the road leading to Zamost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At around the 10-kilometre mark, a branch of the road will take you to the village of Kupari \u2013 the point of origin of the Kupa river source. Visit the Birth House of the River Kupa Interpretation Centre, which educates its guests on the rich biodiversity of the Kupa river. Once in Kupari, make your way across the Kupa river, and keep cycling along its right bank to the village of Hrvatsko, then upstream along the \u010cabranka river. In Zamost, you can take a break by the old mill and sawmill, preserved in their original state, and in \u010cabar, you can visit the 17th-century Zrinski Castle. Fuel your body with cheese and herbal juices at the Pintar family farm, which will give you enough strength to make it through the final 10 kilometres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
