The Mrkopalj Historical and Ethnological Collection was opened in 2017 on the first floor of the community centre located in the heart of Mrkopalj. It contains more than 550 historical photos of the Mrkopalj area and approximately 200 old objects, ranging from weapons and tools to books, clothes, kitchen and other appliances, furniture, etc. Among these objects are copies of the Charter by which Joseph II declared Mrkopalj a privileged royal market town, a document on the founding of the Parish from 1771, the plan of the first \u201cPod Vrhin\u201d ski jump from 1933 and other historical documents, as well as some valuable books. Also displayed are handmade skis, poles, snowshoes, rescue sleds, a variety of handsaws and antique folk costumes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the help of an expert guide, visitors will learn interesting stories about Saint Anthony\u2019s Feast, the Caroline road, the Peace Memorial and other fun facts rarely found in literature. A special section is dedicated to a collection of antique ties, and visitors will also be delighted by a rare historical film projector from 1964.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take this scenic route connecting two historical roads \u2013 Caroline and Louisiana \u2013 and immerse yourself in the history of Gorski Kotar, when their construction breathed new life into the region. Starting from Fu\u017eine, ride along the shore of the Bajer lake toward the main road, which will take you to Gornje Jelenje \u2013 the starting point of the original stretch of the most recently built mountain road from 1811. At Ravno Podolje, the highest point of the Louisiana road, take a break by the altimeter and enjoy the gorgeous view eastward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Mrzla Vodica, you can also tour a stunning bridge built in carved stone, while the \u201cHouse of Nature\u201d in Lokve invites you to try its renowned authentic liqueurs. After refreshments or lunch in Delnice, continue cycling down the Louisiana road toward the Veliki Vodenjak viewpoint, a great spot for a quick break. Once in Zalesina, get off the Louisiana road for an adventurous ride along the second historical and tourist road \u2013 the Caroline, connecting Ravna Gora, Mrkopalj and Fu\u017eine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
