Natural attractionsKamačnik Canyon
Kamačnik is the 3.2-kilometre-long right tributary of the Dobra river. Its mouth is located south of Vrbovsko, near the railway station. A hospitality establishment was built at the site. A lovely 1-kilometre-long canyon suitable for tourist visits can be accessed from the mouth of Kamačnik. The Kamačnik gorge, etched deep in carbonate rocks, is characterised by numerous rapids, water vortexes and small waterfall areas, together forming a winding labyrinth of passages in the shadow of the rocks. The canyon can be comfortably traversed on a landscaped hiking trail with wooden galleries and small bridges, built in the style closely resembling that of the special geomorphological reserve of the Devil’s Passage by Skrad.
High water levels make tours of Kamačnik all the more exciting. Although the river’s water volumes vary greatly throughout the year, the Kamačnik source and watercourse are one of the most significant contributors of water to the Dobra river, especially in times of rainfall. As a typical karst watercourse, Kamačnik is also characterised by intermittent infiltrations of water to the canyon course river bed, which lowers the flow rate in times of draught.
